Two story house designs and plans
From an historical perspective multi storey houses were most often an architectural solution to thermal comfort; whereby warmth from the basement heater rises to permeate every room in the house. Alernatively, because no one had a car and public transport was non existent, two storey terrace housing that stacked houses side by side (often called row housing) shortened the distance that factory workers had to walk to work.
Nowadays the reasons are different. Sadly as a result people are often obliged to build two storey houses in a climate that says they should not. Design conflicts often increased consumer reliance on airconditioning despite increasing pleas to adopt 'sustainable design'.
Designre views these obstacles as the means to discover innovative house designs that embrace vibrant and comfortable living conditions. Boxes inside a box are fast dissapearing thank heaven and the road is clear to produce attractive and very desirable house plans.
Here we share some of our discoveries.
House plan designations codify their type as follows.
Single story houses have one letter followed by a number. (EG; D 5)
Two storey houses have two letters followed by a number. EG: CA6.
The second letter is always A or C or L where the upper floor is given to Adults, Children or Living spaces
